Spring 2026 New Grad Registered Nurse (RN) – CMC 6B Medical Observation
About The Position
6B Medical is a specialized medical observation unit designed to manage behavioral health patients in an acute care setting while awaiting transfer to inpatient psychiatric facilities. Our team collaborates closely with emergency room staff, hospitalists, psychiatric liaison providers, and Behavioral Health Patient Placement partners to ensure timely and appropriate transitions for our vulnerable patient population. We care for a diverse group of patients, including those with addiction, Alzheimer’s, brain injuries, trauma, and postpartum mental health conditions. While our primary focus is behavioral health observation, we also provide medical care for patients who require clearance before transfer, utilizing Med/Surg skills in a slower-paced environment than traditional units. We are seeking compassionate, team-oriented nurses with a passion for serving complex patient populations and a commitment to continuous learning and collaboration. Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) is the flagship hospital of Atrium Health, which is distinguished throughout the Southeastern United States for its excellent patient care and medical expertise. CMC serves as the region’s only Level 1 Trauma center, is Magnet-designated, and an approved transplant center for heart, kidney, pancreas and liver. We also serve as one of North Carolina’s 5 Academic Medical Center Teaching Hospitals, providing residency training for more than 200 physicians in 15 specialties and serve as a regional campus for Wake Forest University School of Medicine, based in Winston-Salem, NC. Requirements
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
Responsibilities
- As a skilled and compassionate RN, you will play a pivotal role in providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
- Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skills communication while leading efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.
