The Registered Nurse (RN) resident under the Nursing Residency Program provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities, and patient populations. The Residency Programs are designed to build on the educational foundation of the novice RN. Every participant in the program is responsible for providing safe, holistic care to patients throughout the continuum of this program which is designed to offer up to 6 months of didactic learning and clinical practice preceptorship to achieve the programs core objectives. Each RN Resident will receive valuable mentorship and skill development within a supportive team environment. The RN’s care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics and meets the standards/expectations of Professional Practice. Professional accountability enriches the RN’s engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. Department specific responsibilities during each orientation: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) · The PCU RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, planning, and coordinating interventions and consultations · Procedures and treatments provided in the PCU including but not limited to the management of central lines, chest tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, fluid and electrolyte intravenous replacement, and complex wound care. · Patient population and diagnosis’ includes acute stroke, acute STEMI, acute psychosis/psychological emergencies, ARDS, COVID, and sepsis. Patients frequently present with complex medical histories. · Participates in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team using effective communication and conflict management skills. · Adapts care to accommodate unexpected changes in patient status. Communicates patient needs and changes in condition to physician, team members and/or family. · Provide continuing care and monitoring of PCU patients in locations outside of PCU including MRI, CT, Nuclear Med, Ultrasound, and Radiology
