About The Position

The IR Sedation Nurse is responsible for the assessment of patients including the development, evaluation, and modification of the plan of care for patients receiving moderate sedation for surgical procedures. The Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for the comfort and safety of patients for a designated time frame.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various activities necessary for the preparation of the patient and the procedure room for the radiology procedures in compliance with policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  • Conducts all necessary preparations for the patient procedure room.
  • Stocks the Nursing Cart for the day's procedures with supplies to include EKG leads and oxygen.
  • Prints the daily schedule and pre-op call template.
  • Conducts narcotic count in the morning and moves to the procedure room for the day's procedures.
  • Documents all used narcotics during the day and returns all unused items to the lock box.
  • Conducts end of day narcotic count.
  • Checks in the first patient of the day, explains the procedure to the patient, answers any questions, and addresses patient concerns.
  • Administers medication pre, intra, and post-op.
  • Monitors patient vitals intra-op including blood pressure, EKG rhythm, oxygen saturation, and ensures there are no airway obstructions.
  • Scans items used in the procedure room into the inventory management system.
  • Administers sedation medication through IV access.
  • Transfers sedation from the procedure room to the holding area, hooks the patient up to the monitor, and takes the first set of vitals.
  • Signs off on transfer document from self to the Medical Assistant.
  • Complies with HIPAA policies and standards with regards to patient confidentiality.
  • Oversees the crash cart and performs AED checks and expired medication log daily.
  • Checks inventory monthly, removes and restocks if outdated.
  • Trains new Nurses and Medical Assistants as needed.
  • Makes post-op call to the patient and dictates in patient's chart.
