About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Surgical Services provides professional nursing care to patients in a surgical setting. This role is responsible for the planning, delivery, and management of direct patient care, utilizing the nursing process and adhering to established standards of nursing practice. The RN collaborates with the surgical team to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care. Requires current state licensure and registration as a Registered Nurse.

Requirements

  • Strong clinical skills with the ability to manage patient care in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in managing emergency situations and adapting to rapidly changing conditions.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and surgical technology.
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Missouri or a compact nursing license that permits practice in Missouri.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, active or within 30 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months of hire
  • Experience in a surgical or perioperative setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care for surgical patients, ensuring optimal outcomes.
  • Monitor patient conditions during preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases and respond promptly to changes.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care and surgical procedures.
  • Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and maintain accurate documentation of patient care.
  • Assist with surgical procedures as needed, including preparing and maintaining sterile fields and handling surgical instruments.
  • Educate patients and families on pre- and post-operative care, including wound management, pain control, and recovery expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and best practices for surgical care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and surgical outcomes.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure appropriate levels of supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Support a culture of teamwork, accountability, and patient-centered care within the surgical department.
