More about our team Surgical Ortho, 9 Ashman and 9 Rose, provides services to a range of patients including orthopedic, trauma, general surgery, urology and med surg. We offer our nurses 12 hour shifts, 7a-7p and 7p-7a with an every other weekend rotation. Schedules are provided on a 4-week interval basis, flexible self-scheduling giving staff input into when they work.

Requirements

  • Applicants should have a current state RN license and possess an associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include:
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of the online hospital-based trauma nurse course within 1 year of hire
  • One-year acute care experience or other comparable nursing experience

  • Certification as a Trauma Certified Registered Nurse preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the Patient Care Team’s delivery of personalized, efficient care with respect for patient’s spiritual and cultural differences in accordance with the PA State Board of Nursing Licensure requirement and ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
  • Provides patient assessment throughout patient stay and participates in discharge planning while maintaining a therapeutic partnership with patient, family and caregivers.
  • Initiates and updates individualized patient plan of care (IPOC).
  • Adheres to the 10 Rights of medication administration.
  • Collaborate with physicians as part of Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Is knowledgeable regarding patient condition, completes patient assessment and reassessment, reports changes to the Physician.
  • Reports patient’s status and anticipates situations that prevent/minimize adverse outcomes, promoting patient safety.
  • Implements the interventions identified in the established plan of care and collaboration with members of the Patient Care Team.
  • Demonstrates annual competencies.
  • Completes annual required education and CPR, and OSHA specific education.
  • Completes yearly medication and dysrhythmia examination with a passing score greater than 84%
  • Read and complete a minimum of four (4) age specific competencies yearly and attend a minimum of one hospital-based journal club/year.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patients, hospital, and employee-related information.
  • Maintains accountability and productivity for appropriate staffing following the flexible staffing plan.
  • Attends and participates actively in briefs and huddles. Reads all updates and changes.
  • Maintains proficiency in all aspects of EPIC and medication administration.
  • Participates in Process Improvement utilizing Lean Six Sigma methodology to improve patient outcomes.

  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of patient’s rights and patient responsibilities.
  • Actively participates with the development and implementation of unit specific evidence-based initiatives to improve the outcome of nurse sensitive indicators.
  • Attends educational sessions as directed by the nurse manager to gain knowledge about new treatment options, procedures, or equipment. Timely renewal of PA State RN licensure.
  • Obtains trauma nurse certification within 90 days and maintains certification through a minimum of 8 hours of trauma-based education yearly.
  • Completes hourly rounds on all patients and maintains that bedside shift report is done with each handoff/exchange of assignment according to BSSR guidelines.
  • Initiates the CORE Measure Assessment Tool and the appropriate daily CORE Measure Assessment form (Heart Failure, AMI, Pneumonia, Stroke, Surgical Care Improvement, VTE, and Immunization), assess patient daily.
  • Ensures completion of the Transition of Care; documentation to include the Physician Orders Set (Transition of Care for Home or PFC or Transition of Care for Skilled, Intermediate, LTAC OR Acute Care Rehab) in Epic, written discharge instructions and medication reconciliation.
  • Completes Transfer Consent to Acute Care Hospital, if the patient is being transferred to another Acute Care Hospital.
  • Performs 5 moments of hand hygiene.
  • Is responsible for reading and knowing all nurse practice updates.
