SUMMARY: The Senior Executive Director, Hospice assumes ultimate accountability and leadership for hospice functions, as well as quality to achieve clinical excellence outcomes, regulatory compliance, patient, and employee satisfaction in a manner that supports fiscal responsibility and profitable growth. The Senior Executive Director, Hospice provides a visionary approach to the hospice market potential and oversight for the program office operations, staffing, and patient care in all geographical areas including all new partnerships and potential partnership development. The Senior Executive Director, Hospice collaborates with the Vice President, Regional Vice President, Medical Director, Director of Nursing, Clinical Manager and Joint Venture Partner to ensure continuity of services and company growth and profitability. The Senior Executive Director, Hospice understands and practices all legal and company rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license in the state where the Hospice Agency is located is required.
  • Five to seven years of progressive professional leadership experience in hospice, palliative, or related health programs required.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful operational performance in single or multi-site locations.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and all State/Federal guidelines for compliance of patient clinical care.
  • Possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills and demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to set up complex work systems and engage in flexible problem-solving behavior.
  • Ability to facilitate organizational change initiatives and build consensus around solutions.
  • Ability to organize, multi-task and prioritize.
  • Solid use in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Ability to travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Expertise and Hospice background for multiple sites preferred.
  • Two to four years of clinical field hospice experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight for the overall hospice operations and accounting for agency success.
  • Oversees the implementation of policy, procedures and quality improvement programs related to hospice.
  • Select, interview, and assign office, field and sales staff.
  • Manages sales team for the Agency.
  • Provides appropriate level of support and coaching related to hospice care.
  • Provides oversight and chairs a Corporate level Hospice Committee.
  • Affords mentoring opportunities for team development across agencies.
  • Monitors trends and quality indicators of hospice care to ensure workforce needs are met.
  • Meet and exceed quality indicators with staff qualifications and hospice services.
  • Assists in the projection of the number, type, and use of personnel for current and future needs for the agency regarding hospice services.
  • Active in the community to maintain relationships and grow top 10 accounts including all JV leader relationships.
  • Monitors patient and geographic center metrics and trends in utilization and outcomes of hospice to achieve specific results for company focus areas aligned with Mission and Vision.
  • Collaborates with Regional Vice President of Hospice and Care Integration leadership to ensure continuity of services and capacity for growth.
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to disseminate Best Practices throughout organization and maintain competitive edge.
  • Assumes final accountability for execution of all documentation and clinical practices in accordance with agency protocol and Medicare/Federal guidelines.
  • Maintains expert level of industry knowledge of hospice services.
  • Ensures all hospice policies and procedures for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Identifies the correct collective mix of expertise, knowledge, and skills appropriate for assigned task.
  • Sets, communicates, and maintains clear goals and expectations.
  • Consistently demonstrates Core Values and maintains a professional appearance and Cultural Fit as a representative of the company.
  • Encourage and facilitate employee engagement.
  • Ensure that facility contracts are up to date.
  • Assist with Survey readiness.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness.
  • Back up to Director of Nursing.
  • Stand in Executive Director for other partner Agencies as needed.
  • Performs other projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of Hospice staff.
  • Interviewing, hiring, training and termination of department personnel.
  • Provides consistent coaching and provides challenge and opportunity to direct reports.
  • Supervises direct reports with consistency and clarity of expectations.
  • Completes yearly evaluations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Performs coaching, counseling and discipline as needed.
  • Works with direct reports to ensure employee satisfaction and resolution of issues and concerns.
  • Timecard management.
