Since 1938, Sterling Regional MedCenter has been the center of healthcare excellence in Northeast Colorado providing care for more than 20,000 members in Logan County, and over 50,000 people in its larger market. Sterling Regional MedCenter is licensed for 25 beds with both Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Units, as well as full Women and Infant Services. For obstetrics, Sterling utilizes a computerized intelligent OB program designed to reduce the chance of complications during labor. As a level III trauma designated hospital, Sterling has 24/7 coverage for Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Imaging, Family Medicine/Peds, and Rehabilitation. Sterling boasts cutting edge technology facilitating telehealth access for sub-specialty and tertiary services and state-of-the-art equipment in Imaging, Laboratory, Operating Suites, Emergency Department, and Inpatient Units. The hospital continues to invest facility upgrades and new equipment. Attached to the hospital is the David Walsh Cancer Center, which provides both Medical and Radiation Oncology, with a beautiful infusion center and new linear accelerator. Sterling Regional is the only rural hospital in Colorado with a linear accelerator. In addition, Sterling Regional MedCenter is closely integrated with our Family Medicine and Surgical Specialty Clinics and the hospital and clinics are part of a 2-year, rural training track residency program affiliated with the University of Northern Colorado. POSITION SUMMARY This position provides operational supervision of campus workflow, resource utilization and management, and operations for all clinical and non-clinical departments during assigned shift. Responds to facility emergency situations, initiates disaster notification processes, facilitates patient placement and communicates with media.

Requirements

  • Must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of nursing and healthcare as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Requires a current RN license in state of practice.
  • Requires certification for BLS.
  • Must possess at least 1-2 years of clinical experience relevant to patient population.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills of specialty area.
  • Requires critical thinking, communication, influence, decision-making, analytical, and flexibility skills to make optimal decisions based on multiple variables and desired outcomes.
  • Requires the ability to balance clinical skills with supervisory authority.
  • Must have the ability to consider the ultimate impact of decisions on the unit.
  • Must have the ability to practice skills according to department and professional standards and quality requirements.
  • Requires New Leader Experience certification within one year.

  • BSN preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses overall staffing effectiveness and adequate throughput by ensuring the appropriate number, competency and skill mix of staff are involved in the provision of needed health care services according to census, acuity.
  • Responds to and assesses all codes and other crisis situations, implements plan, and evaluates response. Understands and utilizes the appropriate chain of command as needs arise.
  • Serves as a professional resource to patients, families, physicians, and staff by prioritizing, mediating and resolving concerns. Interprets organizational policies and facilitates patient-centered care.
  • Interprets and ensures regulatory compliance of business entity policy and procedures. Provides expertise and serves as a resource to committees and departments.
  • Demonstrates an expectation and support for continuous quality improvement.
  • Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.
  • May be responsible for selection, orientation, on-boarding, and retention.
  • This position must know the resources needed to resolve problems and when to use them in order to facilitate facility operations, particularly during off hours.
