About The Position

We are seeking compassionate nurses who are eager to learn and grow their skillset in forensic nursing. Our SANE nurses provide critical care and support to patients during some of the most vulnerable times in their lives, and we are looking for dedicated individuals who are committed to delivering that level of care. The Adult Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Nurse provides timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the adult sexual assault victim. • Provides forensic exam and evidence collection according to protocols established by UH Adult Forensic Program. • Conducts medical assault interviews utilizing forensic techniques. • Accurately performs and documents a comprehensive forensic exam based on the established protocols. • Performs a head to toe assessment for trauma, and detailed genital exam. • Documents detailed injuries accurately with support of photographic evidence. • Effectively utilizes the colposcope to provide photographic documentation. • Provides expert and fact testimony when required. Coordinates with attorneys during judicial process. • Participates in quality assurance chart and photograph review process. • Collaborate effectively with other disciplines and provides appropriate follow-up resources for patient and families. Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of nursing process and practice. (Required proficiency)
  • Uses a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed clinical therapies (ie. stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers and electronic monitoring devices. (Required proficiency)
  • Registered Nurse (RN), Ohio and/or Multi State Compact License (Required Upon Hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required Upon Hire)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) May be required based on the clinical care standards of the unit. Refer to ACLS/PALS Unit Requirements document found on DWP Nursing Portal to determine requirements by unit.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) May be required based on the clinical care standards of the unit. Refer to ACLS/PALS Unit Requirements document found on DWP Nursing Portal to determine requirements by unit.
  • Other Accredited Program: Diploma in Nursing or
  • (ADN) Associate's Degree in Nursing (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Has completed an Adult/Adolescent SANE training certified through the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN)
  • Has completed additional didactic SANE training including four hours of court observation, training with the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, Cleveland Sex Crime department and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation Center.
  • Demonstrated skills in human relations, human & material resource management.
  • Evidence of ability to provide exceptional clinical and administrative nursing leadership.
  • Two years of RN STRONGLY preferred experience
  • Certified Adult/adolescent sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE-A) is preferred.
  • (BSN) Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred)
