The Robotics Coordinator oversees the clinical aspects of the robotic program in the Main Operating Room, ensuring effective collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Robotics Program Manager and OR Leadership. This role involves motivating and directing nursing and surgical staff, managing robotic surgical procedures, and maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.

  • Oversee day-to-day clinical activities supporting robotic cases.
  • Motivate and direct nurses, surgical technicians, and other staff providing care to robotic patients.
  • Oversee the setup of the Robot for surgical procedures.
  • Act as a liaison to the VETS Team.
  • Supervise the preparation and positioning of patients along with the surgical team.
  • Assist with clinical troubleshooting of the Robot Surgical System during procedures.
  • Make appropriate room assignments based on case requirements and team member skills.
  • Maintain records of procedures and assist with data collection and management.
  • Target and support new surgeons interested in robotic surgery.
  • Develop and maintain clinical pathways for robotic surgery teams.
  • Assist in clinical areas as necessary, maintaining visibility and interaction with staff and physicians.
  • Assist as a circulator or scrub nurse at the patient side if applicable.
  • Promote excellence in nursing through collaboration with key personnel to determine staff learning needs.
  • Support team members in achieving professional development and advancement opportunities.
  • Ensure team members' education documentation is complete.
  • Identify, lead, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to identify and correct factors contributing to problematic outcomes.
  • Work with central scheduling and surgical office schedules to support robotics scheduling and equipment needs.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to enhance teamwork and promote a positive image of the Health System.
  • Assess environmental factors affecting patient/staff safety on an ongoing basis.
  • Communicate incidents involving self, patients, staff, and/or visitors using quality reporting mechanisms.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fire/safety/infection control programs in practice.
  • Provide support for safe transfer, patient assignment, and staffing support.
  • Oversee technical maintenance and training for robotic equipment according to established standards and guidelines.
  • Manage routine preventative maintenance on the Robot Surgical System.
  • Oversee the setup of auxiliary equipment for robotic procedures.
  • In-service and train OR staff on management of the Robot Surgical System.
  • Conduct Robot System Training via the Interactive Training Tool.
  • Identify creative cost-saving initiatives while maintaining or improving service quality.
  • Facilitate effective use of time, people, materials, and financial resources.
  • BSN from an accredited nursing program or Certified Surgical Assistant Program.
  • 3-5 years of OR and/or robotic experience.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse or Licensed Surgical First Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
