About The Position

You’ll help create a positive and seamless experience for every team member — ensuring they feel valued, supported, and heard The Registered Nurse for Recovery is responsible for providing professional, research-based nursing care during the pre- and post-operative process for patients undergoing surgical and other invasive procedures. This position is an integral part of the patient’s care team through the pre-, intra-, and post-procedural phases of care working closely with the Anesthesiologists, Surgeons and other health care professionals to support an optimal care experience. Location: Anacortes, WA, Onsite Schedule: Days / Full Time / 0.75 FTE per week Salary Range: $37.64 – $71.35 per hour Shift Differentials: Night: +$4.75/hr Weekend: +$4.00/hr BSN Premium: +$1.00/hr Certification Premium: +$1.00/hr

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse License
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
  • Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting required, with two (2) years of previous critical care experience strongly preferred.
  • Can identify emergent situations, and is able to perform in a calm and professional manner during the emergency situation.
  • Can demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and can identify each patient's/employee’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
  • Ability to respond in a constructive and sensitive manner to the verbal and non-verbal behavior of patients, families, visitors, peers, and other hospital personnel.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism and take action to improve.
  • Ability to perform position responsibilities with emotional maturity

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) certification preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process as a basis of care.
  • Acknowledges, coordinates and implements diagnostic and therapeutic orders of each patient.
  • Accountable for administration of, observation, charting and reporting effects of drugs, intravenous procedure, other therapeutic and diagnostic measures in a safe and accurate manner.
  • Arranges outpatient postoperative appointments with surgeon's office during office hours.
  • Gives nourishment as indicated by surgeons’ orders, patient's condition or desire.
  • Reviews outpatient postoperative instructions with patient and/or responsible party verbally and in writing.
  • Discharges outpatients according to Discharge Protocol.
  • Makes follow-up outpatient calls according to protocol.
  • Performs pre-op physical assessment according to protocol.
  • Checks chart for completion of consent, history and physical, and reports of ordered diagnostic studies.
  • Takes nursing history in reference to reason for hospitalization, allergies, physical limitations/special considerations influencing positioning and care during surgery.
  • Communicates with appropriate O.R. nurses and anesthesiologist regarding information gathered from patient interviews.
  • Assesses patient's condition: vital signs, patency of airway, level of consciousness, condition of wound, dressing, patency of IV and condition of site, patency of drains and tubes, level of block in regional anesthesia.
  • Takes vital signs every 15 minutes or more often as indicated by patients' condition.
  • Medicates for pain as indicated, as ordered by anesthesiologist or surgeon.
  • Checks surgeon's postoperative orders and implements those requiring immediate action.
  • Communicates with family regarding patient's status.
  • Notifies nursing unit personnel prior to transfer from PACU.
  • Ensures compliance with all established hospital policies, procedures and guidelines.
