The Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse will apply the nursing process, technical, and clinical skills to meet the needs of the patient and family, while building healing relationships. Clinic Summary: As part of the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center at VCU Health, we are unrelenting in our mission to discover and develop better, innovative treatments, to imagine a future without cancer. We provide radiation treatments to adult and pediatric patient populations utilizing external beam therapy and brachytherapy. Radiation Oncology is an outpatient department of the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center with our flagship location located in the Adult Outpatient Pavilion in downtown Richmond, Virginia. Our satellite locations are at our North Hospital, Stony Point, and Hanover Medical Park. What we do: • Provide specialized care to patients receiving radiation therapy • Provide patient education and symptom management • Obtain patient history and perform focused assessments on new, follow-up, and undertreated patients • Develop strong relationships with all patients- including our undertreated patients who we see daily for ~6 weeks and follow up with for years • Provide case management, helping patients and their families navigate the complex oncology care trajectory • Work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to provide high level quality care to our patients and their families • M-F schedule with no weekends/ major holidays Radiation Oncology is a place where you know you are part of something bigger than yourself, you can take pride in your work, and know you make a difference for the lives you touch.

Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state
  • Current RN licensure in Virginia
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements.
  • Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders.
  • Practices within the boundaries of the regulations governing the practice of nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards.
  • All practice is guided by and follows the VCUHS policies and procedures and established practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice
  • Academic Health Care Experience
  • Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program
  • Certification in specialty area
