Since 1971, Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, essential, and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are living with a mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. As a Full-Time Psychiatric Care Nurse (RN) at RCSC, you'll be a key player in providing life-changing care to individuals experiencing mental health crises. Your role will involve working closely with a staff psychiatrist to assist with the prescription, administration, and monitoring of client medications. You'll also conduct in-depth assessments to determine the appropriate medical and nursing care for each individual. Your responsibilities will include developing and evaluating individualized treatment plans, overseeing the safe and accurate management of medications, and coordinating medical services, including referrals, transportation, and medical appointments. You'll also offer supportive counseling to clients and families, and provide crisis intervention and emergency services when necessary. Requirements

  • RN License as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Board of Nursing
  • At least one year of behavioral health experience
  • Willing to register as a QMHP-A trainee within the first 30 days of employment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide crisis intervention
  • Passion for working with individuals in need of psychiatric care
  • Ability to build trust and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
