The Registered Nurse (RN) in Psych performs essential duties such as treating patients, educating them about mental and medical conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and their families. This role involves running therapeutic groups, psychiatric crisis intervention, and managing seclusion and restraint of patients. RNs are responsible for recording patients’ medical histories and symptoms, assisting with diagnostic tests and analyzing results, operating medical machinery, administering treatment and medications, and supporting patient follow-up and rehabilitation. Additionally, RNs educate patients and their families on managing their illness or injury, including diet and exercise programs, self-administration of medication, and physical therapy.
