Post-anesthesia care unit nurses at The Hospital of Central Connecticut are responsible for both pre- and post-operative care. The PACU nurses prepare patients for surgery by initiating IV’s, administering medications, providing patient education, and validating required documentation. Post-operatively, the PACU nurse is responsible for recovering patients from anesthesia and managing postoperative care, following best-practice guidelines from The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN). We are a 10 bed PACU, providing care to a variety of surgical services, such as general surgery, robotics, urology, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, thoracic, colorectal surgery, and trauma. Also included is managing the recovery of some higher-acuity vascular surgery patients. We are a busy service, providing 24/7 coverage with some on-call requirements. ICU experience is preferred although we will consider nurses with ED, step-down and floor-level experience on an individual basis. ACLS certification is required for external candidates as we frequently care for ICU and step-down patients. Nurse/Patient ratio is 2:1. We are looking for candidates with a positive outlook and a teamwork mentality.
