About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at St. Francis Downtown is responsible for providing exceptional nursing care to patients. This involves utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, determine priority of problems and needs, implement clinical nursing interventions for acute and critical patients, develop and perform patient care plans to improve outcomes, and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment. The role also involves collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team, conducting patient assessments, observing surgical procedures, managing nursing care within the OR, coordinating with other care providers, and providing pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care including discharge instructions.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Nursing
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • BLS Basic Life Support (must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred at hire, may be required within 6 months based on specific surgical department requirements)
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred at hire, may be required within 6 months based on specific surgical department requirements)
  • CNOR Certified Perioperative Nurse
  • SGNA Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates
  • Two years of RN experience in Critical Care Department
  • Completion of OR internship program
  • Successful completion of Peri-op 101

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team
  • Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessment
  • Observes the surgery and surgical team from a broad perspective and assists the team to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the patient
  • Responsible for managing the nursing care of the patient within the OR and coordinating the needs of the surgical team with other care providers
  • Provides pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care, including assessment and discharge instructions
  • Utilize strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status
  • Determine the priority of the patient’s problems and needs
  • Implement clinical nursing interventions to acute, critical patients that require intensive medical care
  • Develop and perform patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes
  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment
  • Other duties as assigned
