About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Perianesthesia team at Southdale Hospital, located in Edina, MN! We are looking for a dynamic RN to support our busy and fast paced Perianesthesia departments at Fairview Southdale Hospital. This RN provides pre and post-anesthesia care to a broad range of patient demographics, including ambulatory and inpatient patient populations. Roles include pre-op phone calls, pre-op assessment and admission day of surgery, assisting anesthesiologist with blocks, Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery in PACU-extended observation. Schedule: This Perianesthesia Nursing position works 48 hours every two weeks on a rotating Day/Evening schedule, with 8-hour shifts. Start times may vary (5:30 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, or 3:00 PM), and while this position is primarily day shifts, it will include some evening shifts. The schedule includes rotation of weekends and holidays. This role also requires on-call availability beyond FTE, with a 30-minute call response time. As a Perianesthesia RN, you will be responsible for: Assess patients and patient condition according to Perioperative Policy and ASPAN Standards, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s) who are anticipating and recovering from procedure(s) and anesthesia. Coordinate care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate. Demonstrates ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Evaluates care, adapts interventions and prioritizes care based on patient assessment, uses resources to respond to emergency situations. Some specific duties include pre-admission phone calls, admissions day of surgery, monitoring and continuously assessing patients following procedure until ready for transfer to the floor-as well as Phase 2 care to include intensive patient education that assures readiness for discharge to home. Demonstrate critical care skills needed to include airway and hemodynamic management, pain management, and excellent assessment skills for patients in altered states of consciousness. Will evaluate patient responses to interventions including; administration of medication, responses to anesthesia, and risks related to surgical procedures. Cultivates a culture of improvement, efficiency and innovative thinking. The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedure, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). Requirements

  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support and ACLS with American Heart Association or American Red Cross as a Health Care Provier.
  • One year current RN PACU experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • 3 years of current RN PACU experience.
  • CPAN and/or CAPA certifications

  • Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP)
