About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pediatric Medical-Surgical unit is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to a designated group of patients. This role involves utilizing the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, while collaborating with physicians and healthcare team members to ensure effective treatment and support. The RN will also exercise leadership skills in coordinating patient care and directing the activities of the patient care unit team.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN Degree within five years of job entry date.
  • Specialized certifications as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient interviews and explain policies and procedures to patients and their significant others.
  • Assess patients' gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and neurological health status.
  • Determine mobility, sensory deficits, prostheses use, and skin condition, adjusting the plan of care as appropriate.
  • Assess pain levels and manage pain effectively.
  • Communicate and document patients' physiological and psychosocial health status and care plans.
  • Identify cultural and ethnic requirements to reduce anxiety and ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Develop individualized patient outcome statements and establish goals based on assessments.
  • Coordinate the cost-effective use of supplies, equipment, and medication to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Implement the plan of care and maintain constant vigilance over patient safety needs.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their significant others during care.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and medications correctly and safely.
  • Participate in discharge planning and coordinate referrals as appropriate.
