About The Position

Are you looking to make an impact on the physical, emotional and cultural needs of pediatric patients and their families? Join our team as a Registered Nurse at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital! Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, we deliver a broad range of pediatric programs from surgery, imaging and neonatal and pediatric intensive care to cardiac and oncology (cancer care) services and blood and marrow and organ transplantation. Our compassionate, innovative approach has repeatedly received national recognition. We are proud to be the oldest academic children's hospital in Minnesota and the longest-running top-ranked children's hospital in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The Pediatric Med/Surg Float Pool RNs are able to float to the Pediatric Med/Surg units. The critical care RNs function in the role of charge flyer in which they serve as a resource for the entire pediatric hospital, making staffing recommendations, as well as are members of all emergency response teams, including code blue, rapid response team, and trauma activation team. This position will be working 0.75 FTE (60 hours) every two weeks on the Night shift, 12 hour shifts and every third weekend. The RN role offers an additional $2.00/hour for being in the Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool. Fairview offers a nurse residency program for eligible new graduate RNs taking this role with the organization!

Requirements

  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
  • Will Consider New Grads

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing or BAN
  • 1-3 years of nursing experience

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
  • Involves the patient, family and other health team members in gathering data.
  • Uses an ongoing, systematic process to gather relevant information (biological, psychological, spiritual and social aspects) from patient and family.
  • Prioritizes interventions based on patient acuity, available resources, and patient/family preferences and needs.
  • Initiates patient/family teaching as appropriate to age, readiness to learn and available resources.
  • Collaborates, consults, or makes referrals if unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Uses the full range of therapeutic modalities to support and augment the healing process, moving from least intensive and invasive to more, depending on need and context.
  • Involves the patient, family and other health team members in evaluating care.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care.
