About The Position

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a level 2 trauma center at UMC Children’s Hospital, a 16 bed unit serving patients ages 0-20 suffering life-threatening illnesses or injuries. An RN in our PICU will learn and gain experience in a family-centered atmosphere where medical and surgical care is provided using a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach. Combining the talents of more than 30 specialists and sub-specialists, children at UMC are treated for a wide range of needs that can include trauma, general surgery, cardiology, neurology and neurological surgery, oncology/hematology, endocrinology, and burn care. Registered professional nurse who assesses, implements or delegates, plans, and evaluates total nursing care and functions in accordance with established philosophy, providing and directing patient care for a group of patients. Relates effectively with other shifts/departments for optimal continuity of care.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License.
  • Must maintain a current BLS and PALS certification from American Heart Association.
  • ACLS certification from American Heart Association preferred and encouraged.
  • BSN required or must be obtained within 3 years of hire.
  • Pediatric CCRN or Certified Pediatric Nurse Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience required; PICU experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS certification from American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric CCRN or Certified Pediatric Nurse Certification.
  • PICU experience.
