About The Position

This full-time Registered Nurse (RN) position is in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Texas Health Southwest in Fort Worth, TX. The role involves working 3-12 hour shifts, 7 AM to 7 PM, totaling 36 hours weekly, with self-scheduling options to support work/life balance. The PCU is a 36-bed department with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, caring for intermediate/telemetry level patients, including those with post-acute stroke, general medical, endocrine, GI/renal conditions. Texas Health Southwest is recognized as a MAGNET facility, a Level III Trauma Center, a Primary Stroke center, and features a Stroke/Neuro designated unit. The position offers excellent opportunities for educational and career growth, including advancement into leadership roles.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • NIHSS – within 90 days of hire
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • The professional nurse exhibits understanding of basic human needs.
  • The professional nurse demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process
  • assesses the patient
  • plans the care of the patient
  • intervenes as appropriate
  • evaluates the effectiveness of interventions
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers
