About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the PACU/Pre-Op department is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing same-day surgery. This role involves monitoring patient safety, administering medications, and ensuring adherence to infection control protocols. The RN will work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care and support to patients and their families throughout the pre-operative and post-operative processes.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Registered Nurse License.
• Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
• Experience in nursing, particularly in pre-operative and post-operative care.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a same-day surgery setting.
• Ability to provide psychological support to patients and families.
• Experience in pre-admission testing calls to patients.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the provision of nursing care to patients in a same-day surgery setting.
• Assumes total responsibility for patient care in accordance with physician's orders and center policies.
• Monitors and controls the use of supplies utilized in the center and ensures patient safety and infection control efforts.
• Records and reports all symptoms, reactions, abnormalities, and changes in the physical and/or mental conditions of post-operative patients.
• Administers medications and treatments ordered by physicians, ensuring proper documentation and understanding of intended actions and side effects.
• Cares for and discharges post-operative patients according to facility policies.
• Provides patient education and high-quality customer service.
• Maintains patient and employee privacy and confidentiality.
• Functions independently in emergency situations and makes logical quick decisions based on sound judgment.
• Maintains competence through continuing education and meets requirements for CEU re-licensure.
• Assists in the orientation of new employees and acts as a resource for them.
