About The Position

The position is for a Registered Nurse in the Orthopedics Surgery department at Advocate Health. The role involves using the nursing process to provide ongoing care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of patient needs. The nurse will be responsible for triaging and consulting with patients and their families, preparing patients for exams, performing laboratory procedures, administering medications, and providing patient education. The nurse will also assist in the development and implementation of staff orientation and educational activities, and maintain the cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and work areas. The position requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care and to respond to changes in patient status.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing.
  • No experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Uses the nursing process to provide ongoing care (assess, plan, intervention, and evaluation).
  • Provides triage and consultation to patient, family, and/or significant others according to protocol and organization guidelines.
  • Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and documenting/updating pertinent health information.
  • Performs laboratory procedures using principles of aseptic technique and standard precautions.
  • Assists the physician/provider with procedures and surgeries.
  • Administers medications under physician/provider orders.
  • Assesses and provides patient education and counseling.
  • Performs advanced clinical tasks or skills with demonstrated competency.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of staff orientation and educational activities.
  • Organizes and prepares exam rooms, lab and work areas.
  • Completes routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment.
