Our OR department functions 24/7 and is comprised of 15 Hybrid OR's specializing in Orthopedics, Neuro, General, ENT/Plastics, Open Heart, and more! Schedule 0700-1530 with call every 4th weekend & rotating holidays. On-Call Pay: $6/hr 40 hours/week = full-time pay & benefits.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Iowa or compact state required
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required
  • Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Previous RN experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • OR experience is preferred
  • Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support or obtain within 6 months of hire based on specialty team

Responsibilities

  • Drawing up medications for anesthesia induction
  • Assisting with intubations and airway management
  • Setting up arterial and blood lines, and aiding in ordering blood products
  • Performing IV placement, including pediatric patients
  • Assisting with central and arterial line placements
  • Helping position patients for surgery in various positions such as supine, prone, beach chair, lateral, and lithotomy
  • Providing anesthesia support during off-site procedures including CT, MRI, Cath Lab, Bronchoscopies, and ICU
  • Stocking anesthesia equipment and supplies
  • Conducting daily crash cart and malignant hyperthermia cart checks
  • Assisting anesthesia teams during Open Heart surgeries
  • Mixing emergency drips as needed
  • Maintaining current ACLS and PALS certifications
  • Ensuring accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families, and co-workers
  • Demonstrating competent assessment, planning, intervention, coordination and evaluation skills
  • Maintaining accurate and real time documentation of nursing care provided
  • Functioning as a role model for current and new staff
  • Directing other licensed and non-licensed personnel in the provision of care
  • Responding within scope of practice to emergencies and life-threatening conditions
  • Adhering to and promoting patient safety practices
  • Providing ongoing education to patients and families
  • Delegating to other staff positions specific to the department
  • Maintaining proper sterile technique throughout the procedure
  • Assuring that all areas of procedure documentation are complete and accurate
  • Monitoring supply usage in the OR to ensure accurate charges are submitted
  • Demonstrating critical thinking skills in anticipating the needs of the OR
