About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Operating Room (OR) team at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN! The Operating Room at St. John’s Hospital provides offers a warm, inviting atmosphere and caring, personal staff. We are committed to delivering outstanding health care to our growing community. Our 184 bed facility offers a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. Schedule: This role is a 0.8 FTE position (64 hours per two-week pay period), working 8-hour evening shift (shift times for 8 hour shifts are 11:00 am - 7:30 pm or 2:45 pm to 11:15 pm). Weekend rotation and on-call coverage are required. On-call staff must be able to arrive within 30 minutes of the hospital; on-site call rooms are available if needed. About the OR at St. Johns: St. John’s OR has 8 Operating Rooms with supporting Preop and Postop department adjacent. It is a Robotic Center of Excellence as well as Bariatric Center of Excellence with General, Urology, GYN and Oncology being the largest Volume of Robotic cases. Surgeries in this Unit include: Open Heart, complex and simple Neuro-spine, General, GYN, Colorectal, Plastics, ENT, Oral, Urology, Vascular, GI, and Ortho trauma Cardiac Cath lab and Hybrid room adjacent to the OR. As an Operating Room Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for: Demonstrates dedication to principles of the patient care model (Professional Partnership Model) and achieving the HealthEast nursing vision and strategy Uses the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to coordinate outcome focused patient care. Throughout this process, also understands and incorporates comprehensive nursing theory based on Watson's Theory of Caring aligning with the practice standards of the American Holistic Nurses Association whenever holistic therapy is offered The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others (surgical technologist, nursing assistant, huc) as appropriate. Implements protective measures prior to procedure, including measures to prevent skin or tissue injury due to thermal, mechanical, electrical and chemical sources. Confirms identity before the operative or invasive procedure and verifies operative procedure, surgical site and laterality. Applies principles of aseptic technique and safety while establishing and maintaining sterile fields. Ensures perioperative environmental sanitation. Actively participates in the development and achievement of department goals (safety, cost, quality, patient experience, employee engagement) Supports patients’ rights and ethics by delivering consistent, proficient, and ethical care, within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support of the patient’s value system. Demonstrates knowledge of the health system environment and administrative issues that impact job performance, patient safety, and ethical considerations. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • One year OR RN experience OR Completion of Fairview’s Periop 101 program.

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • 1 year experience
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Assoc) Some positions may require ACLS depending on the unit and patient population.

  • Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP)
