Job Summary Provide professional, evidence-based perioperative nursing care with primary responsibility as circulating nurse in the operating room. You’ll verify readiness, coordinate the surgical team, protect sterile fields, maintain accurate documentation and counts, and champion patient comfort and safety throughout the surgical experience.

Requirements

  • Current Arkansas Registered Nurse (RN) license (or compact RN eligibility).
  • BLS at hire; ACLS within 12 months of hire.
  • Effective communication skills with providers, staff, patients, and families; ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Successful completion of facility medication/pharmacology competency during orientation (per policy).

Nice To Haves

  • CNOR certification (or commitment to pursue).
  • Prior Operating Room/Perioperative nursing experience; knowledge of OR policies, asepsis, and surgical workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Function as the circulating RN for assigned surgical cases; coordinate surgeons, anesthesia, and scrub staff for safe, efficient workflows.
  • Complete pre-procedure readiness: verify H&P, consents, pre-op checklist, anesthesia record, and required labs/imaging; document per policy.
  • Ensure correct patient positioning and skin preparation; maintain strict aseptic technique and infection prevention practices.
  • Perform, document, and reconcile sponge/needle/instrument counts per policy; escalate discrepancies immediately.
  • Accurately handle and label specimens; complete nursing notes and patient charges in the EHR.
  • Communicate promptly with the OR supervisor/charge and keep leadership informed of issues affecting patient flow or staff coordination.
  • Participate in call rotation; respond within required timeframes to support urgent/emergent cases.
  • Support a positive, collaborative culture with physicians and interprofessional team members.
