About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) Operating Room Specialist position at Inova Fairfax focuses on providing specialized nursing care in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR). The role involves supporting both adult and pediatric cardiac surgeries, contributing to one of the busiest heart transplant programs in the country. The RN will work in a state-of-the-art facility, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and advocating for patient rights throughout the healthcare continuum.

Requirements

  • Education: BSN or AD; if RN has an AD, must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of direct Operating Room (OR) experience as a Registered Nurse; preferred 2+ years of diverse OR experience including Vascular, Robotics, Orthopedics, and Neurosurgery.
  • Licensure: Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support with American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple data sets.
  • Formulate individualized plans of care based on assessment findings.
  • Support and empower patients and families through the healthcare continuum.
  • Advocate for patients' rights and provide counsel to resolve issues.
  • Anticipate ethical, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and families.
  • Coordinate healthcare and alternate services for patient transition planning.
  • Document all patient care activities according to standards.
  • Evaluate processes to achieve outcomes and revise plans of care as needed.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Mentor staff on the importance of relationship-based care initiatives.
  • Utilize standards and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Review self-development plan and seek educational opportunities.
  • Demonstrate evidence of self-development through continuing education.
  • Initiate coordination of multidisciplinary resources when on call.
