About The Position

We’re seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Operating Room team , providing high-quality, patient-centered care to those undergoing surgical procedures. At Sentara Obici Hospital , a 175-bed, full-service community hospital in Suffolk, Virginia , you’ll experience the perfect balance of advanced medical technology and compassionate care. The Operating Room RN plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate surgical care. This position requires a strong clinical foundation, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. You’ll provide direct patient care using the nursing proces s —assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation—while coordinating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and fellow nursing staff to deliver seamless care throughout the perioperative experience.

Requirements

  • Current RN License or eligibility in the Commonwealth of Virginia (required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Specialty certifications as applicable to area (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) within specified timeframes
  • Previous OR experience preferred, but open to RNs with a passion for surgical care and a commitment to learning

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, effective, and compassionate care for surgical patients before, during, and after procedures
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care
  • Maintain sterile technique and enforce infection control standards
  • Collaborate with surgeons and surgical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Document nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely
  • Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring comfort, dignity, and clear communication throughout the surgical process
  • Participate in ongoing education, training, and quality improvement initiatives
