The position involves obtaining and recording initial assessments of patients, establishing priorities based on patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs. The nurse will reassess patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention, implementing and documenting timely interventions appropriate to patient needs while recognizing and responding to emergencies. Comprehensive nursing decisions will be made based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcomes. The role includes participating in patient and significant other health education and discharge planning, coordinating team assignments, and making adjustments based on patient and unit needs. The nurse will also follow up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness, utilizing the appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult issues. Participation in the orientation of new staff, maintaining a neat and organized environment, and contributing to the unit’s continuous quality improvement plan are also key responsibilities. The nurse will function as a resource to visitors, physicians, and staff, greeting them promptly and courteously, and will perform other related duties as assigned. All activities must comply with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures.
