About The Position

Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute - Oncology Nurse Triage Team is a dedicated group of oncology-specialized registered nurses who provide remote symptom management and clinical support to patients navigating the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. Our team plays a critical role in assessing and triaging patients experiencing symptoms related to their cancer or treatment. We collaborate closely with on-site oncology clinics to ensure timely, coordinated care and appropriate interventions. Through strong communication and clinical expertise, we build trust and rapport with both patients and care teams, delivering high-quality triage support that enhances the patient experience. This is a remote position, with standard hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Team members are also expected to work a limited number of holidays each year as part of our commitment to continuous patient support.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. BSN required. RN candidates for external hire or internal promotion without BSN must be enrolled in a BSN program upon hire/transfer date and must complete program within 3 years of enrollment in the program.
  • Oncology and triage experience

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care, engaging patients and families through the continuum of care.
  • Monitors patient conditions, adjusts care plans, mobilizes resources, and collaborates with the care team to influence care outcomes.
  • Continuously evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking action as needed.
  • Maintains accurate, timely EHR documentation.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
