A Brief Overview Responsible for providing employee health services, including pre-employment services, injury prevention and safety, injury follow-up, screening and education to the employees of a business, either on site or on the Avera campus.

Responsibilities

  • Presents a variety of health education programs and in-services to client companies and/or their employees on occasion as assigned.
  • Administers Hepatitis B vaccine, tetanus, influenza, Covid and other appropriate immunizations.
  • Works together with Occupational Health providers to perform diversified duties regarding employment health screenings and exams to include but not limited to: taking of vital signs, vision screens, urine and saliva drug screens, breath alcohol tests, blood testing, first aid and hearing tests, lipid and glucose screening, biometrics and one on one consultations to encourage healthy lifestyles.
  • Actively uses the nursing process in goal-focused patient care, demonstrating accountability as an individual and team member.
  • Manages employee preventative health (including one on one consultations, reviewing results and follow-up plans) and injury surveillance program according to established criteria set by the company and collaborate with the company’s Human Resources Department, Safety Officer, Safety Committee, and/or injury management teams to promote effective health and safety practices.
  • Provides the coordination of care for employee injuries through close and ongoing communication with the injured employee, medical provider, company’s workers’ compensation administrator and employer with emphasis on employee’s age and culture specific needs.
  • Communicates with client companies and injured employees in a respectable manner to facilitate the evaluation and care of an injury in a timely fashion and plans for early return to work through modified duty or early identification of vocational rehabilitation candidate.
  • Maintains patient/employee confidentiality; recognizes legal implications and consequences of actions.
  • Participates in department strategic planning, and quality improvement activities.
  • Assists with the internal development and coordination of programs and services to area businesses.
