About The Position

The position is for a Registered Nurse in the Observation Unit at Advocate Health, a leading nonprofit integrated health system. The role is full-time, requiring night shifts with a schedule of three 12-hour shifts one week and two 12-hour shifts the next, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. The nurse will be expected to work every fourth weekend and three holidays per year. The position offers a sign-on bonus of up to $7,500 for external candidates, loan support of up to $20,000, and tuition assistance of up to $7,500 per year, with pay ranging from $37.50 to $56.25 per hour.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Uses the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan.
  • Includes the patient and family in planning and implementing care, maintaining a therapeutic relationship throughout the healthcare continuum.
  • Anticipates and recognizes significant changes in the patient’s condition and need for care, providing ongoing assessment and taking appropriate actions.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members to coordinate patient-centered care and implements strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety.
  • Assesses patient and family readiness to learn and individualizes the approach to meet their learning needs.
  • Coordinates the discharge plan utilizing an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Applies evidence-based practice to deliver patient care and incorporates nursing and regulatory standards into practice.
  • Evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking appropriate action when changes are needed.
  • Supports shared governance activities to improve processes and patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Promotes collaboration among healthcare team members and assumes a leadership role in the care team.
  • Identifies threats to patient safety and intervenes to prevent harm, reporting safety events in a timely manner.
  • Participates in quality/process improvement initiatives and professional development activities.
