About The Position

The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the clinical and administrative operations of the facility during assigned shifts. This position ensures that high-quality resident care is delivered in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as facility policies. The Nursing Supervisor provides leadership, support, and guidance to nursing staff, serves as the on-site decision maker, and acts as a resource to residents, families, and staff.

Requirements

  • Current, unencumbered RN license
  • Minimum 2–3 years of clinical nursing experience in long-term care/skilled nursing preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or charge nurse experience required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergencies and make sound clinical and administrative decisions.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for LTC facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision to nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) during the shift.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels, including making assignments and arranging coverage as needed.
  • Serve as the highest-ranking nurse in the building during off-hours, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Support staff in problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making.
  • Address performance or conduct issues promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure delivery of resident-centered care that meets individualized care plans.
  • Monitor resident conditions and intervene appropriately in emergencies.
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation of resident status, changes in condition, and interventions.
  • Review new physician orders, labs, and treatments for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with facility policies, infection control, and safety standards.
  • Monitor staff adherence to established protocols and nursing best practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits.
  • Report unusual incidents, accidents, or changes in resident status according to policy.
  • Oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges on assigned shift.
  • Complete 24-hour shift reports and ensure accurate hand-off communication.
  • Maintain inventory of emergency supplies and equipment readiness.
  • Serve as the facility’s on-site administrator in the absence of DON/Administrator.
