About The Position

The Nurse Residency Program at Prisma Health is designed for new graduate nurses to refine their nursing knowledge and skills while working under the supervision of the Clinical Education Team. Participants are responsible for attending all quality and core curriculum classes, engaging in professional development workshops, and completing clinical competencies. The role involves managing clinical situations under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse, adhering to organizational policies, and ensuring patient care standards are met.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited school.
  • Graduate of a nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing.
  • No previous experience required; candidates with greater than 12 months of experience are not eligible.
  • In lieu of RN licensure upon hire, a temporary license/Graduate Nurse licensure may be accepted.
  • Must hold a current RN compact/multistate license or be licensed to practice as an RN in the state of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all quality and core curriculum classes.
  • Participate in professional development workshops and peer support groups.
  • Complete all clinical competencies and validation requirements of the Nurse Residency Program.
  • Collect patient data and complete required forms according to unit standards.
  • Identify patient problems/needs and set priorities.
  • Interpret and record diagnostic results.
  • Perform nursing assessments using critical thinking skills under supervision.
  • Develop a plan of care based on nursing processes and incorporate multidisciplinary plans.
  • Provide treatments/procedures and care as prescribed.
  • Explain nursing procedures and provide discharge teaching.
  • Act as an advocate and coordinator of patient care.
  • Record patient care delivered and any variations with rationale.
  • Delegate nursing care to appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes.
  • Monitor unsafe working conditions and document issues.
  • Fulfill call for unit as assigned and adjust staffing based on patient care needs.
