About The Position

The position involves providing nursing care through physical and mental assessments, laboratory testing, plans of care, and therapeutic treatments. The nurse must be knowledgeable about a wide range of disorders, including cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral issues. Responsibilities include performing crisis intervention and participating in the department's performance improvement and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.

Requirements

• Associates degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program.
• Current Registered Nurse license in the state of employment.
• CPR and hospital-selected de-escalation technique certification.

Nice To Haves

• Advanced degree or certification in nursing from an accredited nursing program.
• A minimum of one (1) year experience in a behavioral healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a therapeutic milieu that is safe and focused on delivering quality patient care.
• Lead the team on shift through appropriate assignments and thorough communication.
• Conduct admission and daily shift nursing assessments for all patients.
• Identify and manage patient medical conditions and changes in patient condition.
• Assess pain and utilize appropriate pain management techniques.
• Provide education to patients and families.
• Conduct medication reconciliation as part of the medication management process.
• Administer medications utilizing safe medication practices according to policy.
• Follow Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) protocols.
• Establish and maintain individualized treatment plans depending on patient need.
• Communicate with team members regarding patient care issues.
• Document based on the SUN policies.
• Coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary.
• Perform all aspects of patient care in a safe environment.
• Function as a patient and family advocate.
• Demonstrate flexibility and organization under stressful situations.
• Utilize proper protocols for the use of Seclusion and Restraint.
• Perform other duties as required.
