About The Position

The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health, accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program®, offers a collaborative learning environment for new nursing graduates. This full-time Registered Nurse position, known as the Banner Health New Nurse Experience (NNE), is designed to help new graduates transition to fully competent, professional nurses by refining skills, enhancing knowledge, and developing professional relationships. Successful candidates are placed in specific units, such as the Hematology-Oncology unit (3NW), a 29-bed PCU/IMC unit specializing in adult cancer care, including stem-cell transplants and CAR-T therapies. This unit is a fast-paced environment with a strong emphasis on education, comradery, engagement, and inter-professional collaboration. The program provides clinical mentorship, training in a state-of-the-art simulation center, competency assessments, orientation to the Cerner electronic medical health record system, patient care skills labs, and e-Learning modules. Participants are expected to remain on their NNE unit for at least 12 months for comprehensive training and must live within a reasonable commute. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting nursing care in accordance with organizational policies and professional standards, utilizing specialized knowledge and judgment appropriate to the patient's physical and developmental age. The position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered and involves active participation in unit shared leadership and professional development.

Requirements

  • Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
  • Current BLS card (through either American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before a start date.
  • No more than 12 months of RN experience.
  • Ability to maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work, as demonstrated through annual validations.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient needs (physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, discharge planning), review patient history, diagnostics, and report abnormal results to appropriate caregivers.
  • Formulate, initiate, and revise patient-specific plans of care, including discharge plans, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, considering all patient needs and ensuring goals are realistic and measurable.
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate the patient's and family's response to care and teaching, and revise the plan of care as needed, evaluating patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes.
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record legibly, timely, and accurately, reflecting objective/subjective data, nursing interventions, and patient's response to treatment, and noting physician orders.
  • Provide care based on the best evidence available, participate in research activities within clinical practice, and engage in unit or facility shared leadership and professional organizations.
  • Interact and participate in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors, including precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
  • Contribute to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care, and actively participate in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes.
  • Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts (including other health care institutions, community providers, agencies, and clergy) to report, clarify information, and provide support for the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.
  • In some roles, supervise staff and workflow of the department.
