About The Position

Works under the supervision of the Med-Surg Nurse Manager. The Staff RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and supervises individual patient care on the nursing unit according to established policies, procedures and guidelines. Accepts responsibility for the direction of co-workers in the implementation of the patient’s plan of care. Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Credential:RN: Registered Nurse
  • Credential:BLS: Basic Life Support (Within 1 month of hire or transfer)
  • Credential:ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Within 12 months of hire or transfer (New requirement as of 2016))
  • Credential:TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (Within 6 months of hire or transfer (Employees who are in this position on or before 12/31/2023 will have 24 months to complete this certification))
  • Credential:DIMC: Dysrhythmia Interpretation Man (New requirement effective 2/24/2025. Telemetry Competency through testing or Telemetry Monitoring & Management class with passing score within 12 months of hire or transfer.)
  • Education: Associates Degree
  • Two years general Medical-Surgical/Charge Nurse experience required.
  • Skills: Good basic clinical skills in delivering care in an acute care facility.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Good interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families and co-workers.

  • Bachelor's preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care using the Nursing Process by: Completing nursing assessment of patient and documenting appropriately in the patient chart. Develops a plan of care based upon the assessment of the patient. Implements plan of care and documents in the chart.
  • Evaluates patient’s response to care and updates plan of care.
  • Oversees the delegation of specifics of the patient plan of care to unit staff.
  • Engages in patient/family teaching as appropriate.
  • Maintains professional standards by participating in educational opportunities and Performance Improvement activities.
  • Communicates with the Health Care Team.
  • Adheres to unit/department budgetary practices.
