Department/Unit Summary The registered nurse (RN) plans, coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served in the Medical Surgical Orthopedics unit. The RN ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with departmental standards of care. The RN demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the assigned unit and the organization. They remain flexible to changing systems - are expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practices, and treat staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.

Requirements

  • Current state RN license
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current RN license in state of practice; BCLS required; ACLS, PALS, and Handle with Care preferred.
  • 1 year of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments.
  • Documents patient care and monitors patient condition, communicating with care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Coordinates patient care across disciplines, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and support needs.
  • Provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, and circumstances.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
