About The Position

This Registered Nurse (RN) position within the Medical ICU (MICU) Labor Pool at Riverside Health System is responsible for the comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of total nursing care for assigned patients. The RN will operate in various settings and roles, utilizing communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to develop individualized care plans based on physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity. The role includes supervising and delegating tasks to non-professional personnel to ensure optimal patient care and demonstrating competence in addressing age-related needs of specific patient populations. The RN works collaboratively with leadership and a multi-disciplinary team to deliver clinical care in accordance with Riverside Health System's standards of excellence and strategic goals. Key aspects of the role involve assessing patient clinical and psychosocial needs using evidence-based standards of practice, partnering with patients and families to create and evaluate care plans, coordinating care with the interdisciplinary team, and facilitating safe patient transitions. The RN is expected to demonstrate urgency in patient throughput, focus on quality outcomes, and provide individualized patient and family education, including discharge instructions, while ensuring comprehension and accurate documentation.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma is minimum education requirement (Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing accepted in lieu of Nursing Diploma)
  • High School Diploma or GED (only required if Nursing Diploma Graduate)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or licensed compact state Upon Hire
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire
  • ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 90 Days

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the total nursing care of assigned patients.
  • Utilize communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making to create individualized care plans based on physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to non-professional personnel to ensure optimum patient care.
  • Demonstrate competence in dealing with age-related needs of specific patient populations.
  • Work under the direction of leadership and a multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care in accordance with established standards of excellence.
  • Assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice relevant to Critical Care/Telemetry units/departments.
  • Partner with patients and families to develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care, treatments, and procedures.
  • Assess and incorporate evidence-based standards of practice.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in the coordination of care.
  • Facilitate safe patient transitions to the next care setting.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput, ensuring consistent, competent, and ethical care.
  • Focus on quality outcomes of patient care, including current evidence-based practice and quality measures.
  • Demonstrate understanding of diverse patient care populations and modify education methods to ensure patient/family comprehension.
  • Individualize and coordinate patient education, including discharge-specific education for family/caregivers.
  • Evaluate for patient comprehension and accurately document all required clinical and quality information per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations.
  • Evaluate own needs for support and utilize identified systems to meet those needs.
