Requirements

  • Current RN license in state they are working or covered by compact
  • BLS Basic Life Support (must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
  • One year of RN experience

  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support acceptable in lieu of BLS)
  • Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification RN-BC (Registered Nurse - Board Certified)

  • CMSRN Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse
  • National Institute of Health (NIH) Stroke Certification
  • Bachelor of Science Nursing
  • Six months RN experience in an acute care hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Establish goals and strategies for meeting the discharge or continuing care needs with the patient, in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Perform and document complete patient assessments.
  • Initiate and maintain current nursing care plans for all assigned patients.
  • Identify patient learning needs to provide individualized and comprehensive teaching.
  • Administer medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and Bon Secours Mercy Health policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout the hospital departments.
  • Act as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department.
  • Serve as a patient advocate in collaboration with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics.
  • Assign patient care according to the nursing skill, knowledge, and scope of practice of staff.
  • Orient, facilitate learning experience, and provide education (based upon quality improvement indicators, outcomes, and implementation) to nursing staff and others.
  • Perform comprehensive assessment of patient's clinical condition and psychosocial needs of the patient and their supportive resources.
  • Safely and efficiently develop, implement, and prioritize plan of care.
  • Apply the nursing process in patient care delivery.
  • Assess patient's physical and emotional responses to treatment to evaluate effectiveness of intervention and patient outcomes; revise plan of care accordingly.
  • Assist patient and family in coping with patient's illness.
  • Collaborate with others in the delivery of coordinated patient care.
  • Integrate cost-effective measures into practice and model effective stewardship of available resources.
  • Protect the safety and privacy of all persons.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required by their supervisor, subject to reasonable accommodation.
