About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for their Med/Surg 7B unit at the M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. This position is 0.7 FTE (56 hours every two weeks) with 8-hour day and evening shifts, including every other weekend rotation. The 22-bed 7B unit provides care for adult patients undergoing Thoracic Surgery, Urology Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, General Surgery, and those with Cystic Fibrosis or General Medicine needs. Patient ratios are 3-4 patients for day and evening shifts, and 4-5 patients for night shifts. The University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) is an integrated academic health care system and the flagship facility of Fairview. A Nurse Residency Program is available, designed to bridge the gap between academia and clinical practice for new grad/novice nurses. This program offers a structured curriculum (8 hours of learning every 2 months for 12 months) covering essential skills like time management, interprofessional teaming, communication, wellbeing, social determinants of health, and critical thinking. It also provides mentorship, networking opportunities, and hands-on clinical experiences, including virtual reality.

Requirements

  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
  • Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care.
  • Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
  • Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP).
