The Mattei Cardiothoracic Surgery ICU (CTICU) provides inpatient care to adult and geriatric patients on a 24 hour basis.. Common diagnoses for these patients include, but not limited to: CABG, Minimally Invasive CABG, Valve repair/replacement, orthotopic heart transplant, ventricular assist device (VAD) placement, aortic aneurysm repair, congenital heart defect repair, and thoracotomy. Care is provided to listed population during the acute intensive care phase immediately following surgery. CTICU utilizes the following diagnostic and therapeutic services to facilitate patient care: nursing assessments and evaluation, administration of prescribed medications, EKG/hemodynamic monitoring, intravenous therapy (including titration of vasoactive and inotropic drips), maintenance of IABP, fluid and electrolyte balance, CRRT, ventilator support, respiratory care, safety management, nutritional support, family and patient education, infection control, skin care, standard precautions, point of care testing, and discharge planning. Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) is the flagship hospital of Atrium Health, which is distinguished throughout the Southeastern United States for its excellent patient care and medical expertise. CMC serves as the region’s only Level 1 Trauma center and is an approved transplant center for heart, kidney, pancreas and liver. We also serve as one of North Carolina’s five Academic Medical Center Teaching Hospitals, providing residency training for more than 200 physicians in 15 specialties and serve as a satellite for the medical school at UNC-Chapel Hill. Job Summary The RN Clinical Nurse I provides professional nursing care through skillful assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with facility or department policies procedures, and/or protocols under the supervision of the nursing leader. Assists in maintaining a safe work environment and performs all related job responsibilities in a safe manner. Maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the population of patients served.
