Requirements

Associate degree in nursing
Current RN license or current license deemed acceptable by the applicable State Board of Nursing
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification (IBCLC)
2 years of nursing experience in lactation education or mother-baby

Responsibilities

Responsible for making clinical assessments using current lactation theories and research to develop evidence-based feeding plans that address individual feeding issues while respecting the physician's and family's lactation goals.
Provide instruction to new and expectant mothers to help them understand the lactation process.
Evaluate expectant mothers to determine if there are reasons to suspect lactation issues.
Responsible for teaching women how to use breast pumps and other lactation devices.
