About The Position

Sentara Leigh Hospital is seeking an experienced, dedicated Registered Nurse for our Labor & Delivery unit. As part of a top 10 busiest Labor & Delivery unit in Virginia, you will work in a fast-paced environment that has recently expanded to 41 beds, featuring private, comfortable rooms for labor, delivery, and recovery. The team at Sentara Leigh focuses on family-centered care, collaborating with physicians, midwives, and doulas to provide exceptional patient outcomes.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of Labor & Delivery or Antepartum experience is required.
• Valid RN License to work in Virginia or Compact Multi-State License.
• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing (ADN, BSN, Diploma, or MSN).
• BLS (Basic Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) are required.

Nice To Haves

• BSN is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, and implement care for patients in labor, providing care from admission to discharge, including labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care.
• Monitor fetal heart rates, perform vaginal exams, assess maternal vitals, and manage high-risk cases in a fast-paced environment.
• Act as a circulating or scrub nurse for cesarean sections and assist providers with epidural placement and other procedures.
• Administer medications, including Pitocin for induction, pain management, and IV fluids.
• Demonstrate sound decision-making and swift action during obstetric emergencies (e.g., shoulder dystocia, fetal distress).
• Work closely with a team of physicians, nurse midwives, and lactation consultants.
• Provide education to patients and families regarding newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
