About The Position

Sentara Obici Hospital is seeking motivated Registered Nurses to join their dedicated nursing team in the Labor and Delivery and Postpartum Care Unit. This role involves providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a supportive environment that values teamwork and professional growth. Sentara Obici Hospital, a 175-bed, full-service community hospital in Suffolk, Virginia, is known for its compassionate care and strong teamwork. The hospital offers advanced medical services and is a recognized accredited Primary Stroke Center and Magnet hospital for nursing excellence. The Labor and Delivery and Postpartum Care Unit is a fast-paced, 22-bed department with 10 L&D/Triage rooms, 12 Post Partum Rooms, and a 20-room dedicated nursery. The unit provides comprehensive care for laboring patients from admission to discharge, including labor and delivery, recovery, and postpartum care, as well as care for OBGYN surgical patients such as those undergoing hysterectomies and mastectomies. The department is recognized for its top patient experience and frequently has Daisy Award winners, and is currently seeking AWHONN designation.

Requirements

  • RN-Associate’s Degree, RN-Bachelor’s Degree, RN-Diploma, or RN-Master’s Degree
  • Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire
  • ACLS and PALS or ENPC within one (1) year of hire
  • New graduates will only be considered if they have completed a preceptorship at Obici L&D and Postpartum Care

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • At least 1 year of acute care nursing experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation)
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health)
  • Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas
  • Provide care for laboring patients from admission to discharge, including labor and delivery, recovery, and postpartum care
  • Care for OBGYN surgical patients, including those undergoing hysterectomies and mastectomies
