About The Position

The IV Resource Specialist assesses and evaluates patients’ health status related to vascular access and IV therapy needs. This role performs advanced vascular access procedures, including midline and PICC placements, using ultrasound and visualization technology. The specialist develops individualized care plans, collaborates closely with clinical teams, and provides education to nursing staff and community partners. This position reports directly to the IV Resource Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • BSN required by 2029 or within 10 years for RNs hired after 2019
  • Current NH RN licensure
  • Vascular Access Certification Corporation (VACC) certification within 1 year of hire
  • Three years of related nursing experience
  • Experience operating ultrasound technology for midline and PICC line placement
  • Experience performing expert peripheral IV insertions
  • Experience utilizing vein visualization technology
  • Experience documenting clinical assessments, interventions, and recommendations in the medical record
  • Experience educating clinical staff on vascular access practices
  • Experience functioning independently and prioritizing vascular access needs
  • Ability to achieve competency in the following:
  • Within 30 days: Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Within 90 days: Peripheral catheter insertion
  • Midline catheter insertion
  • Ultrasound-guided PICC insertion
  • PICC tip confirmation using current technology
  • Implanted port access and care
  • Central line care

Responsibilities

  • Identify patients requiring advanced vascular access.
  • Provide recommendations to healthcare teams on appropriate vascular access strategies.
  • Evaluate patients’ ongoing vascular access needs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Infusion Nurses Society Standards of Practice.
  • Demonstrate competence in advanced vascular access techniques and device care.
  • Perform ultrasound-guided midline and PICC line placements.
  • Utilize vein visualization technologies.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and recommendations in the medical record.
  • Complete appropriate interventions identified during surveillance rounds.
  • Provide formal and informal education to clinical staff and community partners.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Maintain expert-level peripheral IV placement skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
