About The Position

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Intermediate Care/Step Down Unit-3 East. This position is full-time, working weekends on the night shift from 7 PM to 7 AM. New graduates are welcome to apply, with a sign-on bonus of $7,500 and a $500 uniform allowance. Sentara offers a dynamic 6-month Nurse Residency Program designed specifically for new graduate RNs with less than one year of experience. All new graduates are automatically enrolled in this program, which combines practical skills with hands-on training, professional development, and mentoring. The 3East - Intermediate Care Unit enjoys a supportive team environment with a favorable nurse-patient ratio and includes a unit-based nurse educator, team coordinator, and manager. The patient population may include cases such as sepsis, hemorrhage, stroke, cardiac issues, trauma, post-operative care, substance withdrawal, and diabetic ketoacidosis.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required).
  • Registered Nursing License (required).
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • No prior experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients in the Intermediate Care/Step Down Unit.
  • Participate in the Nurse Residency Program for new graduates.
  • Engage in a clinical preceptorship for 10 to 12 weeks.
  • Collaborate with a supportive team including nurse educators and coordinators.
  • Monitor and assess patient conditions and report changes.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
