Duke Raleigh Hospital, A Campus of Duke University Hospital, seeks to hire Registered Nurse who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together. Qualified candidates will receive a $15,000 commitment bonus! NP 5200 is a 37-bed inpatient adult medical/stepdown oncology unit. Our main patient populations involve symptom management for oncology patients, administration of chemotherapeutic agents, and end-of-life care. Nursing care is provided in collaboration with other departments and disciplines including hospital medicine, surgical services, pharmacy, case management, social work, nurse navigators, dieticians, and chaplain services. The unit is also part of Duke Cancer Institute of Wake County, which provides comprehensive cancer treatment for patients in Wake County receiving care across the continuum of inpatient and ambulatory settings.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program is required.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.
  • Nurses hired at Duke Health with a valid compact license are required to obtain their North Carolina nursing license within 90 days of their start date.
  • BLS required.
  • No experience required.

  • Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
  • Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and act.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of general policies and responses.
  • Provide direction and guidance in the proper use, care and control of material resources.
  • Collect and analyze patient data, develop and implement nursing care plans.
  • Establish interpersonal relationships with patients, evaluate nursing care given and communicate relevant facts about patients.
  • Act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit.
  • Maintain standards of cleanliness in assigned areas.
  • Observe activities of nursing staff and make recommendations to nursing management for improvement.
