The Registered Nurse for ICU/CCU ensures the delivery of quality nursing care for critically ill patients in accordance with age-related and individual needs, physician’s orders, hospital policy, standards of care and nursing practice. Responsible for assessing the needs of patients, planning nursing care to meet those needs, and ensuring that the plan of care is carried out and documented according to the principles defined in the nursing process. Participates in the development of critical care unit goals. About the Department: The Intensive Care Unit is a 10-bed unit with a 1:2 nurse to patient ratio for most patients. For patients that require more support, such as those who have paralysis, are on continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), have a Percutaneous Ventricular Assist Device (Impella) or intra-aortic balloon pump, we have a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio. In our unit, you'll broaden your nursing skills and experience a diverse range of cases, as we care for all types of ICU-level patients. This includes post-neurosurgical patients, those with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), post-cardiac arrest cases, sepsis, and patients with liver or kidney failure.
