About The Position

The position involves planning and delivering professional nursing care to patients. The nurse will work under the direction of a physician and is responsible for providing comprehensive care while adhering to established policies and procedures. This role includes mentoring and training new staff and students, ensuring that care is delivered within the scope of practice defined by the applicable licensing board. The nurse will also be responsible for evaluating patient needs, maintaining care plans, and promoting patient independence through goal setting and education.

Responsibilities

• Provides care to patients under the direction of a physician.
• Mentors, develops and trains new staff and students.
• Performs acts that are within the scope of practice as defined by the applicable licensing board.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients as described in unit/department-based competencies, policies, and procedures.
• Accurately evaluates patient needs and reviews/maintains a comprehensive care plan within scope.
• Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals and including the patient and family in discussions regarding medical issues, testing, medications, and self-care skills.
• Provides for accurate administration and evaluation of medication, management of medication orders, and delivery of medication to patients in a timely manner.
• Educates the patient/family on physical, emotional and psychosocial aspects of care, disease process, symptom and pain management, and signs and symptoms of death (when appropriate).
• Completes timely and accurate documentation as per Health System/affiliate policy.
• Observes the patients' physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual conditions and reports any changes as directed.
• Acts in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
• Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Maintains effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
