About The Position

At New York Cancer & Blood Specialists (NYCBS), the Registered Nurse Float (RN) is a vital part of a passionate team dedicated to providing world-class cancer care. This role involves administering chemotherapeutic and biologic agents, supportive care medications, and participating in cancer research trials. The RN Float will monitor and chart patient vital signs and responses to treatment, collaborate with healthcare professionals, and educate patients and caregivers on treatment expectations, follow-up care, and emergency services. The position requires travel to various NYCBS locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties, working four 10-hour days per week.

Requirements

  • Valid New York State RN License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required
  • Excellent assessment, communication, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of standard precautions and the ability to utilize appropriate PPE when administering cytotoxic agents and handling bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids
  • Reliable transportation to travel to NYCBS locations throughout Suffolk and Nassau counties

  • Proficiency with an EMR (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Administer chemotherapeutic and biologic agents, as well as supportive care medications as prescribed by a physician
  • Recognize and treat cancer-related and treatment-related issues
  • Monitor and chart vital signs, document in the medication administration record
  • Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to share expertise and knowledge
  • Participate in cancer research trials, administering medications per protocol
  • Provide supportive resources to patients and caregivers to promote health and wellness
  • Teach patients and caregivers families regarding treatment expectations
  • Monitor patient status during the administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and supportive medications
  • Chart the patient’s response to treatment and medication
  • Educate patients and caregivers about follow up care and emergency services
